Cocoa has become one of the highest quality products in Peru as well as coffee; it has contributed to the sum of values within the premium quality chocolate factories. It also has a high amount of benefits.

Among the benefits of cocoa we have the high index of protein, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, theobromine, caffeine, antioxidants and water, among others. In relation to health we can highlight the following:

– Provides energy, cocoa contains a healthy amount of caffeine. This helps boost energy and fight fatigue.

– Cocoa is one of the richest sources of polyphenols which have significant health benefits, including reduced inflammation and improved cholesterol levels.

– They favor the production of endorphins, helping to improve mood by fighting physical or mental stress.

Where can we find cocoa?

The main cocoa producing areas in Peru are the Valley of the Convención, in the Department of Cusco; the Valley of the Apurimac River, in the Departments of Ayacucho, Cusco and Junín; the Huallaga Valley, in the Departments of Huánuco and San Martín; the Valley of Tambo, in the Department of Junín; and the Marañón Valley, in the Departments of Cajamarca and Amazonas.

At Romex we have retail and export products of cocoa derived products from many of the aforementioned districts and that meet quality standards in addition to the various existing certifications. Our commitment to these communities allows us to continue offering the best services to our customers and contributing to the improvement of the growing areas and the environment.

Last week, our General Manager Jose San Martin participated in the discussion of “The role of small farmers for successful zero-deforestation”, where sustainability issues were presented and the importance it has in the processes we carry out in our growing cocoa areas.

Mr. San Martin made reference to the motivation on the part of Romex to maintain sustainability as a fundamental pillar within its processes, mentioning the following: “I cannot imagine a form of business that is not sustainable”

At the end of 2020, we launched a new complementary line of pastry products: Chocolate Bitter Flavor Couvertures under the Romex Brand. This launch allowed us to get closer to customers in the pastry industry, from small entrepreneurs to large industries.  For the third quarter of 2021 we will have a new launch of the White Chocolate Flavored Couverture.  Among its main benefits we find its excellent flavor, texture, shine and melting speed.  We are excited to continue providing comprehensive solutions for the pastry line and to continue reaching all the people who develop in this field.

Peru and coffee have a long and fruitful history, however, it is not recognized by many. Coffee is one of the traditional agricultural products that Peru exports the most, representing about 9.5% of all agricultural exports, and resulting in widespread growth throughout the entire Amazonian Andes.

Thanks to its distribution and the profitability coffee generates, there are more than 220 thousand families that are directly benefited from coffee. Most coffee growers own their own land and harvest the coffee using traditional cultivation practices. Despite the challenges that the industry faces each year, coffee generated close to 638 million dollars in 2020.

The Peruvian coffee trade is very important and every day more people are directly benefited by it, in addition to the progressive recognition of the quality of Peruvian coffee.
